Good Morning Fog

Friday, November 27th, 2009

There are only a few days a year that we get fog in the Dallas area.  Usually it only lasts a couple hours in the morning so I knew I had to jump on the opportunity to get a few shots in.

One Magnificent Night: U2 in Concert

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

It’s odd how when you get married or even just spend a lot of time with another person, certain traits transfer between the two.  That is why you will see Mati enjoying sports and quoting lines from the Die Hard saga.  In turn you will see me washing dishes and noticing Craftsman Bungalows gleaned from hours of HGTV.  But it also works with likes/dislikes.  Take for example U2.

Junior High 1991.  Lights out.  Lying on my bed.  Staring up into nothing as Bono croons about one love’s mysterious ways.  I wore out the Achtung Baby cassette that year, maybe in more ways than one, because when the band released POP I just couldn’t get into it.  And so my love of U2 grew into “take’em or leave’em”.  I even had the chance to experience the POPMart Tour in it’s shimmering Disco Lemon glory but even that didn’t rekindle the unforgettable fire.  But of course as I previously stated… when you love someone who loves something then in turn you grow to love it (or sadly sometimes resent it… but that’s for another post).

So when U2 came through Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX this past October with the ever-glorious Muse opening up, I was able to experience the 360º tour with Mati and sing along to “our song” Ultraviolet on equal ground – as a fan.

Spotlight Sunday

Monday, November 9th, 2009

When fellow photographer Tim Scott invited Mati and I to downtown Dallas for Spotlight Sunday on October 18th it was a hard proposition to say no to.  The open house held by the Dallas Arts District to celebrate the new Winspear Opera House and Wyly Theater as well as the other staple downtown arts buildings gave us the opportunity to experience breathtaking architecture on a cool fall day and that was too good to pass up.  We, along with never-hesitant-to-get-in-front-of-the-camera Shellica, took in the festivities and came away with some memorable images…. and here are a few.

Neon Glenn

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Recently Mati and I have decided to institute a “Creative Trumps All” ordinance in our house.  This basically states that if either one of us has a creative urge well up inside of us then that inspiration supersedes all present and future plans of minimal consequence (we can’t use this to get out of going to Aunt Mildred’s “Dancing With The Stars” themed birthday party).  Despite my pleading that the Green Bay – Vikings game last Sunday was of dire significance to not only the NFL standings but also the space-time continuum, my wife stayed home to expend her creative energy.  After watching Favre put on a televised clinic on “How To Make 70,000 People Simultaneously Cry” at a friends house, I made my trek home to see what my wife had created… but something halted me in my tracks.

Just like the horde of mosquitoes that have taken up residence on my front porch, I am attracted to light… especially neon. I don’t know what it is about neon – the glow – the buzz – the color – but I love it. And so when I saw a trailer sitting in a near abandoned parking lot in South Arlington with 60 or so lovely luminescent glass tubes all lit up and buzzing in unison I had to stop and meet Neon Glenn and his cavalcade of handmade works of art.
