It’s odd how when you get married or even just spend a lot of time with another person, certain traits transfer between the two. That is why you will see Mati enjoying sports and quoting lines from the Die Hard saga. In turn you will see me washing dishes and noticing Craftsman Bungalows gleaned from hours of HGTV. But it also works with likes/dislikes. Take for example U2.
Junior High 1991. Lights out. Lying on my bed. Staring up into nothing as Bono croons about one love’s mysterious ways. I wore out the Achtung Baby cassette that year, maybe in more ways than one, because when the band released POP I just couldn’t get into it. And so my love of U2 grew into “take’em or leave’em”. I even had the chance to experience the POPMart Tour in it’s shimmering Disco Lemon glory but even that didn’t rekindle the unforgettable fire. But of course as I previously stated… when you love someone who loves something then in turn you grow to love it (or sadly sometimes resent it… but that’s for another post).
So when U2 came through Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX this past October with the ever-glorious Muse opening up, I was able to experience the 360º tour with Mati and sing along to “our song” Ultraviolet on equal ground – as a fan.
